The Instrument of My Corruption

Slightly off the mark, perhaps, because I think I was heading for the fleshpots long before I happened across my first erotic novel, but I'm always curious to know what people's first experiences of sex in the written form were.

It's a bit ironic, really, that most of the girls at school couldn't wait to get their hot little hands on vaguely naughty publications like Danielle Steele, Lace and all that bonkbuster stuff that was around at the time, while I, thinking I was taking a genteel Georgian-era romance off the bookshelf, found myself staring into the luscious nethers of Fanny Hill.

I was fourteen, I think, and it was rather an eye-opener. In quite a frightening way too - a scene where she fears she will be split in twain by a fellow's enormous manhood stuck vividly in the memory. I don't think I found it erotic particularly - definitely bawdy and earthy, but I was a bit too sheltered to appreciate it then.

So while it might not have stirred anything much, it certainly piqued my curiosity.

What floods of bliss! What melting transports! What agonies of delight!

  1. Oooh, I loved the recent version they did of Fanny Hill. Found the book a bit...like he didn't really know what he was talking about. 'Spose it's understandable, since he was writing in them days.

My first brush with naughties was, bizarrely, James Herbet's The Fog. I thought it was the most pervy thing ever, and read the sex scenes over and over, fascinated. And then I read Ray Gordon's Arousal, and was even more fascinated and also grossed out.

And then Black Lace came about, and all was well. No, really. I remember reading The Stranger and Bonded and Path of the Tiger and all that stuff, and just thinking- oh thank God! Thank God I don't have to have three winkies stuffed up my bum while I'm strapped to a machine, breathing every word I say and getting tired of the word "knob".*

  2. Oh, I'm sure it was 'The Fog' I was reading over someone's shoulder (in a Physics lesson, if I remember correctly) when I spotted the phrase 'his plunging cock in her white flesh'. White? Has he put it in right? I had to wonder. Even at 14 or so, I thought that sounded a bit odd.

  3. For me it was "Jaws" at age 12. There's this seething "I'm going to seduce him" passage, as I remember, that set me on fire. Mind you, at that age I could get off on one sentence.

  4. Oh, same here - 'I shall bed thee, wench' or similar would fuel my fantasies for months.

  5. "She had spent all night catering to his seemingly inexhaustible sexual appetite" is one I remember ...
